Another awesome two nights of Champions League. It was Match-Day Five in Europe this midweek, and English clubs were struggling, really badly.

Liverpool needed a Steven Gerrard penalty in the third minute of second-half stoppage time to salvage a draw and stay level on points with Athletico Madrid at the top of Group D. Wow... Gerrard certainly had a lot of composure to slot that penalty in so well. In front of the Kop as well, with like thousands of eye looking down at you, you must certainly feel the heat, yeah?
Chelsea got ripped by Roma and more specifically Mirko Vucinic. A wonderful worked move that started off with a freekick towards the right to Cicinho, who delivered a wonderful cross into the box, and only Cristian Panucci took the initiative and attacked the ball to score, unopposed. Vucinic handed Cech a wonderful strike in the second half, and his solo effort after robbing Jon Obi Mikel was one to remember as well.
Arsenal... With their young midfiel quartet of Fabregas, Ramsey, Denilson and Nasri, could not find a way past Fenerbache at the Emirates. They are really having problems now, especially if you have to put in Nicklas Bendter and only have young hotshot Carlos Vela on the bench for you. 0-0 it finished.
Man Utd needed a 83th minute Ryan Giggs goal to secure a draw at Hampden Park against Celtic. Woots I heard some Scott McDonald wonder strike got Celtic a 13th minute lead and after that they played a 5-5-0 formation? OR was it 7-3-0? They were nuts, so many defenders, yet one did not close down Cristiano Ronaldo sufficiently, as he took his piledriver towards Artur Boruc.

Congrats to
Anorthosis Famagusta on their magnificent 3-3 draw with Inter at home. Well to be fair almost all the goals were mistakes.
Well this week's Champions League player of the week has to go to
Alessandro Del Piero. His brace against Real Madrid allowed Claudio Ranieri's Juventus side to do the double over Real. Del Piero even added onto his one goal he scored against Real at the San Siro two weeks ago. Well done. Well no such accolades for Real's
'shitty' defence. They could really do with Juventus' Momo Sissoko sitting in front of Heinze and Cannavaro. Just a thought though. =)
The thing about Real Madrid is that they spent an aweful too much on their strikeforce. Why have three similar midfielders, in Guti Hernandez, Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart? And neglect getting a proper right winger and another winger to give Ramos some cover in front of him and add some depth in the squad...
And the worse player of this week's Champions League has to go to Inter Milan's Niclas Burdisso. Two errors, that really would make any defender laugh. One miscomm-then-header towards keeper went awefully wrong. And when you see the highlights as the Anorthosis striker reins down on the open goal to score, you could just see Julio Cesar just whining at Burdisso and not even caring about the stiker no more. AND... Whichever defender heads a cross towards a striker's body, instead of just THUMPING IT CLEAR? C'mon...
