So this are the players that rocked the footballing world for the past year. Portsmouth rise towards the FA Cup and European football next season has to be credited to David James, pulling up fine saves and almost pipping Liverpool's Jose Reina to the Golden Gloves award. Rio Ferdinand was vital to United's cup double, and Ricardo Carvalho was the rock when team-mate John Terry went missing, on and off the pitch. Newcomer Bakary Sagna had a magnificent first season with Arsenal, whilst Patrice Evra's attacking flair earns him a place on the left.
Steven Gerrard inspired Liverpool to a fourth place finish and a semi-final place in the Champions League, while Milan-bound Mathieu Flamini swept up Arsenal's dirty work as Cesc Fabregas grabbed all the glory. How could Cristiano Ronaldo not be in any team of the season? 42 goals in a season, anything else to say? Villa's Ashley Young's performances should give England manager Fabio Capello something to think about him, how about him to Joe Cole on England's left?
Fernando Torres' magnificent first season, complimented with 30+ goals, gives him a place in the team, while Dimitar Berbatov continues to shine in the Spurs side, alongside Robbie Keane.
Real Madrid's trio of Iker Casillas gets the place ahead of James in the worldwide first eleven, as does Sergio Ramos over Sagna and Robinho over Berbatov, all of whom have helped in Madrid's title lift. Barcelona's Yaya Toure and Lionel Messi pips Milan-bound Mathieu Flamini and Villa's Ashley Young respectively.
Bye~!
